Kay Miracle began her singer/ songwriting journey at the knee of her grandfather Claude Wood who played upright bass with such notable artists as Hank Williams and Doris Day. Seeing Kay as a “chip off of the old block”, Claude bought her an acoustic guitar on which began Kay’s musical journey.
While attending college in Washington State, Kay played in local country rock, folk roots and bluegrass bands while building a large portfolio of original material. She was selected to tour overseas with the Pacific Air Force and USO military tours, entertaining troops across the globe for 7 years. Upon arrival back in the states, Kay met and joined a Syracuse based band and eventually made her home in Central New York.
As the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for the alternative country band Reckless Drivin’ she took home a total of 5 SAMMY’s (awards honoring Syracuse’s local artists); 2 awarded to Kay personally as “Best Country Vocalist”. During this time, Kay was showcasing her original songs with her Americana Duo/ Bands “Kay & the Miracle Cure” and the “Ghost Town Ramblers”, releasing 3 -CDs which have aired on Woman of Substance Radio, TeXchromosome Radio, Reverbnation, Song Ladder, Lady Lake Productions Highway Women, and the Rebel 105.9 Soundcheck.
After performing at various TeXchromosome events, Kay became a board member for TeXchromosome Women’s radio with lifetime friend and artist Penny Jo Pullus. In their quest to raise Women’s voices, Kay met many amazing artists from around the world, including singer songwriter Linda McRae. Finding a mutual passion to give back through music, the trio “Miracle Cure” was born. This trio of Songwriters hail from different points on the map, and have toured and recorded several of their original songs on a collection of women Songwriters on the TeXchromosome “Project Freedom” vinyl album in 2024.
As a bi-coastal “train troubadoura”, Kay splits her time performing in both her homes in the states of New York and Washington. While in Washington she caught the attention of a group of musicians that wanted to support Kay’s large portfolio of original songs. From there, the “Desert Moondogs” were formed, which led to the band joining Kay on tours across the country. From New York, and across the Pacific Northwest, the Desert Moondogs graced stages and released their first collection of songs “Horse Heaven Hills”. Currently the band is in the recording studio and plan to release a new collection of songs in 2026.
As an independent Americana artist, Kay has showcased her original tunes at the “TeXchromosome” music series during SXSW in Austin, Texas, the “Stage of Nations Blue Rain EcoFest” as a Native American artist in Syracuse NY, the Tucson Folk Festival, both the “Tumbleweed Music Festival” and Lilac Festival in her home state of Washington, as well as folk festivals from all around the United States. Kay has won several song contests and is the founder of the Americana Historical Songwriter series matching a historical landmark or museum with a local songwriter in a televised series.
Later, Kay’s musical journey introduced her to the world of frequencies, and led her to became a certified Creative facilitator, using songwriting for healing. She founded her program “Blood to Ink” to work with Veterans and those who wish to have their story told through songwriting. She also facilitates creative ways to assist teens and seniors by finding their authentic voice by telling their unique story through songwriting. Kay’s story has been featured on the PBS series, “Inside the story”, and can be found on her “Kay and The Miracle Cure YouTube channel.
Kay’s “musical musings” have captured her life stories, which she delivers to her audience with driving guitar, roots laden vocals and a strong sense of knowing the power of a good lyrical hook.
